Who can we help? Horizons Family Law Centre is committed to the principle that all people
should be able to access legal help regardless of their race, religion, education, geographic location or
financial situation. Our
telephone advice line is a free service that anyone can access no
matter where they are. To contact our telephone advice line, call us on 02 9890 1203 from 9am-midday on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
To the extent that our resources allow, we offer higher levels of help to people who:
- Don’t qualify
for Legal Aid and can’t afford a private lawyer;
- Have a special
need because of the type of legal problem they are facing;
- Are
significantly disadvantaged; and/or
- Have cases that
are in the public interest.
Our help is targeted towards the following areas: - Parenting disputes;
- Domestic & family violence issues, including Apprehended Violence Orders;
- Child Support;
- Criminal charges; and
- Some administrative appeals.
Unfortunately,
we do not
provide representation for the following:
- Family law property or spousal maintenance disputes;
- Immigration;
- Buying and
selling land;
- Wills,
Powers of Attorney or disputed Estates;
- Commercial and
business disputes;
- Taxation issues; or
- Personal
injury or workers compensation claims.
If you require help in these areas, please
check our links page
for
other
organisations that may be able to help you. For more information about
the cases we prioritise for our higher levels of help, please see our representation
policy.
